The Life Lessons You Had

I reminisce the morning walks with you dad
Holding hands we would brisk uphill
Trying to keep pace with you
Sometimes I lagged behind a step or two

For a while you carried me in your arms
Then put me back to ground
Saying ' Come on walk, we're near now lad'
And all along I learnt the life lessons you had

When you held my hand
I felt your support like a wall for the vine
Today, I still do
And I know it will last for tomorrow too

As I kept pace with you
I learnt not to stop
You inspired me
To  not bend a knee

When you carried me
I knew I could rely on you
In the hard times, you would be my saviour
Isn't that dependant a child's behaviour?

But when you put me down
I had to be independent
I learnt to be strong
To be fearless as I walked along

In this game of life
Good and bad as things might be
You showed me the silver lining
Yet cautioning me of the lightning

Whatever I am
And whoever I might be
I owe it all to you dad
And to the life lessons that you had

Happy father's day
