LOCKDOWN 2020

A world that once spun madly
with bustling cities and booming populations
Economies that chimed endlessly
like a spinning top that tumbled
Now had stood still
A year once envisioned to bring a new dawn
Saw sleepless nights

Humans retreated back to their homes
Motors remained parked in garages
Markets had closed their shutters
Eventually economies dwindled
The coins no more chimed

Homes turned into offices
Executives worked behind screens
Classrooms became virtual
Playgrounds remained empty
As PlayStations took life
A new world was born, of virtual reality

As the skies and oceans turned blue and clearer
The once invisible Dhauladhar seemed nearer
The white capped eagle soared the cold skies again
Dolphins returned to the Hoogly river
Probably a one last show of their lost glory
Venetian lagoons saw life again in its waters
As mankind took a pause
Recapturing its space Nature had clenched its claws

For a change people lived well
Suppressed hobbbies were rekindled
Hidden talents found a new stage
Men tried dominating their hands in the kitchen too
But nevertheless women didnt get to rest
While the rich rejoiced in plenty
The poor and migrants remianed stranded in this lockdown's reality

Now the police continue to man territories
Leaders emphasize on social distancing
Hospitals treat only one virus
And doctors have sacrificed their lives to a white overall
As nature builds its own civilization

Is there hope to break from these confiements?
Or is it just foolish optimism?
Is this the beginning of the end?
Or a beginning of a new normalcy?

All those who rest in peace
Rest for the better
For they are free from the evil shackles of nature
And some never had to see their dreams shatter

This poem was written on a nighty duty that I was posted for in an isolation ward of covid positive cases. Myself being in a PPE kit, unable to sleep I though it was a good idea to pen down my thoughts on the current lockdown.
